Cub Camp
Friday to Sunday, 18 - 20th June 04

We had about 43 cubs and 27 leaders/helpers - some parents, some Scouts or young leaders, who did a fantastic job. 4 packs took part: 16th Harlow, 21st Harlow, 3rd Roydon and 1st Kingsmoor.

The theme for the weekend was the Scientist Badge. We had different bases for them to try, including:

Rockets (air and water in lemonade bottles) - they hit the trees and the Dads loved it
Chemical reaction in film canisters (exploding bicarb and vinegar)
Volcanoes (more bicarb and vinegar and food colouring)
Hot air balloons
Pond dipping
Electric circuits
Seeds
Your pulse and how it is affected by exercise
At the end of the weekend, all 43 received their Scientist Badge.
Weather - very hot on Friday, odd light showers on Saturday, Sun again on Sunday.

The food was fantastic, prepared by Tammy the Beaver Leader from 16th with 2 great helpers. Roast chicken, fresh broccoli, carrots, new potatoes, yorkshire pudding on Saturday, lovely fresh rolls, salads, cheese, fruit, homemade cakes. The cubs loved it and couldn't wait for seconds and thirds after each meal. Colin and Judi came for dinner on Saturday and helped out both Friday and Saturday.

Great weekend, and a really big THANK YOU to Wendy Brace, Gilly and the other leaders from 16th for organising everything. Wendy especially did a fantastic job. Thank you to all the leaders and helpers for giving up their weekend to entertain the cubs.
